Literature Text

It took us a long time to realise what we were.

But, as always, we eventually figured it out. And, as always, we knew it was because of our vast intelligence and superiority that we had been able to unravel this equation. We were the worthy, the beautiful children of God, and maintainers of all that he had left in our care.

Except we weren’t.

We weren’t holy beings at all.

We were monsters.

With our usual disregard, we set about concealing this fact. Starting at the bottom and working our way up, we killed away anything and everything, to hide ourselves. It didn’t work.

Because once we had finished our work, as we knew we would, there was a problem.

We still remained.

We, who were the object of our own disgust, were all that was left, to taunt ourselves with our ugliness. So badly, we wanted to finish the work we had started. To rid ourselves of ourselves, and everything that despite our best efforts remained tied to us.  Our pride stood in our way, as it always has done. It wouldn’t give us the satisfaction of knowing we had won.

And so, we took the only alternative to winning that we are capable of comprehending. We lost.

And now we float, eternally, in the midst of the great nothing wrought by our own hands.

We have absolutely no one we can blame other than ourselves.

But that won’t stop us trying.

Wow. I don't know what else to say other than that.
